“Look to the Son”

was created especially for

Brian Thomas Smith of Canton, Michigan

at the age of 6

With Love From,

Pastor John

September 25, 2001

{pg3}

     Today was the day that Brian Thomas Smith was going to stand in front of his Sunday School class and recite his favorite Bible story.  Everyone, including Dad was excited, everyone except Brian.

{pg4}

     When Dad asked Brian if he would like to practice telling his story in front of them before leaving for church, Brian pretended he had to go to the bathroom.

{pg7}

     He sat down on the side of the tub and began combing his hair.  What was he going to say when Pastor John asked him to stand up and tell his Bible story?

     he liked so many Bible stories, it was hard to pick just one. Choosing the right story was a real problem.

{pg8}

     "Tap, tap, tap."

     "I'll be out in a minute," Brian snaps at whomever was tapping on the door.

     "Tap, tap, tap."

     Reluctantly, Brian opened the door.

{pg11}

     Much to his surprise, Brian found himself face to face with a camel!  A big, brown, single-hump camel, knocking at his bathroom door!  What was a camel doing in Brian's house in Westland?

     "I have been sent to help you solve your problem," said the camel.

{pg12}

     "This is silly.  Camels can't talk." Brian was in no mood for jokes. He had to be at the Trinity Church in thirty minutes.

     "But I am talking," said the camel, "and I was sent to help you.  We must hurry now.  Touch my reins with your right hand."

{pg15}

     Brian gently touched the camel's reins and suddenly found himself standing in what appeared to be a desert.

     "Where are we?" He asked the camel.

{pg16}

     But before the camel could answer, Brian saw a crowd of people beside a lake talking with a man whose gentle smile made him feel calm.

     A voice in the crowd shouts,  "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

{pg19}

     Facing the people, the man answered in a soft voice that floats over the crowd, reaching Brian's ears as if he were standing right next to Him.

     "The work of God is to believe in the One He has sent."

     The people began talking all at once.

{pg20}

     Brian looked at the camel.  His large, sad brown eyes stared at the scene in the desert.

     "Who is that man?" asked Brian.

     "Ssh," replied the camel, "just listen."

{pg23}

     Another voice from the crowd bellowed, "What miraculous sign will you give that we may see it and believe in you?  Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"

{pg24}

     The man raised his hands to silence the crowd. Brian listened closely.

     "I tell you the truth.  It is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.  For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

     Brian smiled as the people shout, "Sir, from now on, give us this bread!"

{pg27}

     And the man answered, "I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.    My Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

     Brian couldn't believe his ears. he finally realized that he has been listening to Jesus!

{pg28}

     he turned and looked at the camel.  "I believe you've solved your problem, Brian."

     "Tap, tap, tap," came the knocking on the bathroom door.

     Brian placed his hands on the sink.  The porcelain felt wonderfully cool following his journey into the desert.  "Who is it?" he asked.

     "It's Dad, Brian.  Are you ready to go?"

{pg31}

     Brian took a deep breath.  Yes, he was ready.  he was definitely ready to tell Dad, Pastor John, and everyone in his Sunday School class about the wonderful story of Jesus talking to the people in the desert.

     He couldn't wait to tell how Jesus spoke directly to his heart and soul telling him just to believe in Him and that everything would be fine.

{pg32}

     He knew that Jesus lived and died for him, and that now it is time for Brian to do something for Him!

     "Yes, I'm ready to go," said Brian. "Dad, I'm ready!"
